Pensar o mundo, pensando o sujeito
O trabalho de Eric Corne provoca uma
estranheza e uma curiosidade imediatas, ao
mesmo tempo que revela uma familiaridade
pacificadora. Estúdio, artista, musa, tela,
pincéis, tudo aparenta estar posicionado para
que o seu mundo aconteça, se concretize. Este
seu mundo estabelece-se entre o privado e o
público, entre o segredo e a sua revelação
imediata, diluindo fronteiras, rebatendo
paredes e assumindo o interstício entre o
dentro e o fora. O estúdio é agora o mundo,
onde o trágico, o mundano, o melancólico e o
belo coabitam numa espécie de relação
impossível, enformada pela história, a
literatura, a pintura, o teatro ou o mito. A
estrutura arquitetónica outrora opaca,
“fechada”, física, torna-se agora translúcida e
“aberta”, recetiva ao olhar do outro. O lugar é
assim construído pelo gesto do artista, que
estabelece pontes invisíveis e articuladas com
conceitos permeáveis e provisórios. Corne
elege o mundo como palco privilegiado para a criação e sustentação dos discursos artísticos
contemporâneos, vinculados à ideia de “formar”
território com o outro e comprometidos com
uma realidade complexa e participada.

Depois de estudar medicina, Eric Corne estudou na
Beaux-Arts de Amiens e na Escola Regional Superior
de Expressão Plástica, Tourcoing. De seguida,
estudou na École Nationale Supérieure des Arts
Décoratifs em Paris, e, posteriormente, será graduado
como Mestre de História da Arte em Villeneuve
d'Ascq.
Vive e trabalha em Paris e expõe regularmente na
Europa desde meados da década de 1990, e
recentemente em exposições individuais nas galerias
Reding Nosbaum e Patricia Dorfmann, em Paris, e
também na Villa Merkel, Galerien der Stadt Esslingen
am Neckar, na exposição de grupo "Family Jewels".
Eric Corne é também curador. Foi o fundador e diretor
entre 2001 e 2004 do Centro de Arte Contemporânea
em Paris Le Plateau. Desde 2003 tem vindo a realizar
curadoria de exposições em museus e instituições de
renome internacional (Museu Berardo, de Lisboa,
Museu de Arte de São Paulo, Assis Chateaubriand,
São Paulo, Instituto Valenciano de Arte Moderna).
Além disso, é autor de numerosos artigos e catálogos.
Foi júri e realizou intervenções acadêmicas e foi
professor na École Nationale Supérieure d'Art de
Bourges. Desde 2007, Eric Corne está trabalhar num
projeto de residências artísticas em São Paulo, Brasil,
e na criação de um centro de arte na Cidade
Tiradentes, bairro favelar de São Paulo. É
representado pela galeria Reding Nosbaum no
Luxemburgo e Patricia Dorfmann, Paris.
Thinking the world, thinking the subject
The work by Eric Corne causes an immediate
strangeness and curiosity, while showing a
pacifying familiarity. Studio, artist, muse,
canvas, brushes, everything appears to be
positioned so that his world can happen, can
occur. This world of his is built up between
the private and the public, between the secret
and its immediate revelation, diluting
boundaries and bouncing off walls assuming
the interstitium between inside and outside.
The studio is now the world where the tragic,
the mundane, the melancholic and beautiful
cohabit in a kind of impossible relationship,
shaped by history, literature, painting, theater
or myth. The architectural structure formerly
opaque, "closed", material, now becomes
translucent and "open", receptive to the gaze
of the other. The place is thought by the
gesture of the artist laying invisible bridges
articulated with concepts permeable and
provisional. Corne elects the world as
privileged stage for the creation and support of contemporary artistic discourses, linked to
the idea of “to form” territory with others and
are committed to a complex and participatory
reality.

After studying medicine, Eric Corne studied at the
Beaux-Arts of Amiens and the School of Plastic Arts
Regional Superior, Tourcoing. Then he studied at the
École Nationale Supérieure des Arts Décoratifs in
Paris, and later will graduate as Master of Art History
in Villeneuve d'Ascq.
Lives and works in Paris and has exhibited regularly
in Europe since the mid-1990s, and has recently
participated in solo exhibitions in galleries like
Patricia Dorfmann and Reding Nosbaum, in Paris,
and also in Villa Merkel, Galerien der Stadt Esslingen
am Neckar, in the group exhibition "Family Jewels".
Eric Corne is also a curator. He was the founder and
director between 2001 and 2004 of the Center for
Contemporary Art in Paris Le Plateau. Since 2003 has
been curating exhibitions in museums and institutions
of international repute (Museu Berardo, Lisbon,
Museu de Arte de São Paulo Assis Chateaubriand,
São Paulo, Instituto Valenciano de Arte Moderna).
Moreover, he is the author of numerous articles and
catalogs. He has been a jury and has held academic
interventions, and was a professor at the École
Nationale Supérieure d'art de Bourges. Since 2007,
Eric Corne is working on a project for artist
residencies in São Paulo, Brazil, and the creation of
an art center in the City Tiradentes, urban slum
district of São Paulo. He is represented by Reding
Nosbaum in Luxembourg and Patricia Dorfmann,
Paris.
