«Em Nigredo (2011-2013), as duas figuras
surgem lentamente da escuridão, gesto após
gesto, desenhando os seus contornos através de
apontamentos de luz, emergindo do “vazio” para
a ele tornar e repetir o ciclo, uma e outra vez,
num movimento contínuo. Nestas imagens, que
funcionam tanto como espelho (onde o reflexo
não imita, mas antes cria imagens dissonantes,
tremulações, intermitências da razão que vive
aportada na memória e no esquecimento), como
eco, como ressonância e repetição, os corpos
oscilam entre o seu desvelamento e a sua ocultação, através de uma ação ritualística que
se arrasta no tempo e no lugar. A única luz é
aquela que o gesto oferece (...) O que a luz vai
desvelando são andamentos que revindicam a
sua circularidade, destruindo o ponto de vista
bidimensional que a linearidade aponta,
optando, propositadamente, por um
vocabulário que se sustenta em elementos
muito simples, como a marcha, que permite a
deslocação no espaço, intensificando ou
distendendo as ligações entre os corpos e os
objetos.»

Ana Rito vive e trabalha em Lisboa.
Desenvolve a sua atividade entre a prática artística
(vídeo, filme, performance), a investigação e a
curadoria, concebendo projetos de carácter
transdisciplinar. Numa sequência de apresentações
individuais destacam-se, em 2006, “Melancolia”, no
CAPC - Círculo de artes Plásticas de Coimbra, onde
desenvolve um projeto performativo com as
encenadoras Maria Gil (com quem colabora no Teatro
do Silêncio – Plataforma Artística) e Sara de Castro,
co-fundadora da Companhia Teatral Útero. Em 2007,
apresenta a sua primeira exposição individual na
Galeria MAM – Mario Mauroner Contemporary Art,
em Viena, intitulada “Powerfull Acrobat”. No mesmo
ano participa na exposição coletiva “Faccia Lei”,
comissariada por Elena Agudio no Spazio Tetis,
Arsenale, 52ª Bienal de Veneza e na mostra “Beauty
and the Beast”, com artistas como Jan Fabre ou
Bernardi Roig no Museu Residenzgalerie, em
Salzburgo. Salienta-se ainda “PUPPE PROJECT”,
em 2010, na Galeria MAM – Mario Mauroner
Contemporary Art, Viena, comissariada por Fabrizio
Plessi no âmbito do Festival Art&Film, o projeto
“There is no World when there is no mirror”, no
Palácio Pombal, inserido no Festival Temps d´Images
e produzido pela Fundação Calouste Gulbenkian. Em
2011 co-comissaria com Hugo Barata e Jean-François
Chougnet “Observadores – Revelações, Trânsitos e
Distâncias”, no Museu Coleção Berardo. Em 2009 é
publicado o seu primeiro ensaio “Casa de Bonecas –
Propostas Contemporâneas sobre a Mulher e a
Subjetividade”. É atualmente Bolseira da FCT,
encontrando-se a realizar Doutoramento na
especialidade de Instalação-vídeo, em torno da
Imagem e das artes performativas.

“In Nigredo (2011-2013), the two figures
slowly emerge from the darkness, gesture after
gesture, drawing its contours through notes of
light emerging from the "void" only to return to
it and repeat the cycle again and again, in a
continuous motion. In these images, which act
as both mirror (where the reflection does not
imitate, but rather creates dissonant images,
flickers, intermittences of reason that lives in
memory and oblivion) and eco, as resonance
and repetition, bodies dangling between their
unveiling and their concealment and through a
ritualistic action that creeps in time and place. The only light is the one that offers the
gesture (...) what the light unveils are paces
that claim their circularity, destroying the
two-dimensional view point that linearity
gives, choosing, purposely, a vocabulary that
structures itself in very simple elements, like
walk, which allows movement through space,
intensifying or distending the connections
between bodies and objects.”

"Powerfull Acrobat". In the same year she
participated in the group exhibition "Faccia Lei",
curated by Elena Agudio at Spazio Thetis,
Arsenale, the 52nd Venice Biennale, and in the
show "Beauty and the Beast," with artists such as
Jan Fabre or Bernardi Roig, in the Museum
Residenzgalerie in Salzburg. Note also the "Puppe
PROJECT", in 2010, the MAM gallery - Mario
Mauroner Contemporary Art, Vienna, curated by
Fabrizio Plessi within the Festival Art & Film, as
well as the project "There is no World When there
is no mirror" at the Palácio Pombal, Lisbon,
presented in the Temps d'Images Festival and
produced by the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation.
In 2011, co-curates alongside Hugo Barata and

Museum, Lisbon. In 2009, she published her first
essay "A Doll's House - Contemporary Proposals
on Women and Subjectivity." She currently has a
scholarship from FCT- Fundação para a Ciência e
Tecnologia, conducting a PhD in Installation and
Video, around image and performing arts.
