«Que a magia existe nos objetos, disso estava
convicto André Breton, que acreditava que o
olhar tinha poder de a (re)activar. André Breton
consagrou o livro L´Art Magique [A Arte
Mágica] à permanência de uma dimensão mágica
na arte, afirmando: «O desenvolvimento da
civilização e o progresso incessante das técnicas
não conseguiram extirpar por completo da alma
humana a esperança de resolver o enigma do
mundo e desviar a seu proveito as forças que o
governam.» (…) Além do trabalho do
historiador, do poeta alimentado de imagens,
desenha-se um panorama que o olhar do autor transporta para as representações que
privilegiou, as fantasmagorias ou os símbolos
que cultivou e que vai buscar, indiferentemente,
ao passado e ao presente, bastante para além do
próprio Surrealismo que aí se encontra, aliás,
modestamente representado. (…) Raúl Perez
ignora as etiquetas, os movimentos, os “ismos”
do século XX, referências cómodas às quais o

Raúl Pérez nasceu em Lovelhe (Minho), em 1944.
Expõe individualmente desde 1972. Em 1973 adere ao
Grupo Phases (Paris), tendo participado em diversas
exposições desse grupo em Bruxelas, Chicago, Estoril,
Coimbra e Lisboa. Participa ainda em diversas
exposições colectivas, das quais de destacam: Maias
para o 25 de Abril, Galeria S. Mamede, Lisboa, 1974;
O Cadáver Esquisito, sua exaltação, seguido de
pinturas colectivas, Galeria Ottolini, Lisboa, 1975;
Três Poetas do Surrealismo: António Maria Lisboa,

Nacional, Lisboa, 1981; O Fantástico na Arte
Portuguesa Contemporânea, Centro de Arte Moderna

pinturas e cadáveres-esquisitos com Cruzeiro Seixas

«That magic exists in objects, it was
convinced André Breton, who believed that
the look had the power to (re) activate. André
Breton consecrated the book L'Art Magique
[The Magical Art] residence of a magical
dimension in art, stating: "The development of
civilization and the incessant progress
techniques could not completely eradicate the
human soul of the hope of solving the puzzle
of the world and divert for their advantage the
forces that govern it."(...) in addition to the
work of the historian, the poet fed by images,
draws them up in a panorama that the eye of the author conveys to the representations that
favored the phantasmagoria or symbols he
cultivated and that will get interchangeably, the
past and the present, quite apart from
Surrealism itself, that there is indeed modestly
represented. (...) Raul Perez ignores the labels,
the movements, the "isms" of the twentieth
century, convenient references to which the
critic loves to refer. In this respect, his work
disturbs and dodges.»
